Brief History of ITI Tinsukia
Tinsukia is known as Industrial District of Assam having different Industries like OIL, IOCL, COAL INDIA LTD, APL,BCPL,BVFCL,NTPS,TEA-FACTORY, STEELS-WORTH, Dibru- Saikhowa Wild Life Sanctuary etc. In order to cater the need of different industries skilled manpower are being generated by the “Industrial Training Institute Tinsukia” since 50 Years by imparting training in different Long Term and Short Term Craftsmen Training Courses under the control of the DE&CT Assam & under the DGE&T, New Delhi, Govt. of India.
The Institute was stared in the year 1964 at I.T.I. Jorhat as guest ITI and was finally shifted to its permanent site at Borguri, Tinsukia in the year 1969-70.
Industrial Training Institute, Tinsukia is one of the oldest Institute which was started with 8 (eight) trades namely Fitter, Turner, Machinist, Electrician, Wireman, Mech. (M.V.), Welder (G&E), Carpenter.
This ITI is having its land area measuring 56 Bighas.
At present the institute having 13 (thirteen) different trades in normal courses. 9 (Nine) of them are NCVT affiliated and 4 (four) are SCVT affiliated. There is provision for reservation of seats as per Govt. rules in force.

In the year 2008 this I.T.I. was up graded under PPP scheme under the control of IMC, ITI Tinsukia.

In the year 2012 the existing MMV trade of this ITI was upgraded with the assistance from through TATA Motors, Pune and new trade in Automobile Sector namely Mech. Diesel with SCVT affiliation was introduced.

Apprenticeship Details: Ex-ITI trainees of this Institute and other ITI’s of Assam are engaged as apprentices under the Apprenticeship Act 1961 through ITI, Tinsukia in various industries i.e.- Oil India Limited, ONGC, Coal India Limited, IOCL, APL, Assam Gas Company, Steels worth Pvt. Ltd., Assam Electrical, Hindustan Lever Ltd etc. ITI, Tinsukia is having about 350 apprenticeship assessed seats in the above mentioned establishments.
Details of MES: Modular Employability Skills shortly known as MES is introduced at this institute in the year 2008. In this section ITI, Tinsukia is a registered VTP under DGE&T New Delhi & imparting training in 9 (Nine) short term courses i.e. Basic Electrical, Basic Welding (Arc), Basic Welding (Gas), House Wiring, Basic Automotive Servicing (4 Wheelers), Computer Fundamental, MS Office, Internet, Assistant Shuttering Carpenter & Scaffolder.
Placement Details: Passed out trainees of this institute got placement in various establishment in the upper Assam region like- Oil India Limited, IOCL, Assam Gas Company, ONGC, Coal India Limited, APL, BVFCL, APDCL, Various Tea Estates, Various Motor Dealers, Different Govt. & Private Organization, etc and also some of them are self-employed too. From the last 49 years or so ITI Tinsukia has produced so many skills manpower. Most of them are either govt. employees or various PSU employees or private employees and many of them are also self-employed.
